(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — Katie Thompson, Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast's Vice President of Education, and Erica Henn, Director of Elementary Programs, recently traveled across the country to collaborate with teachers in the Anchorage School District. Their mission was to integrate Junior Achievement's three main pillars—financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship—into classrooms to help equip students in Alaska with essential skills for their future.
During their visit, Thompson and Henn led two days of professional development during which they engaged teachers in activities and hands-on demonstrations which highlighted effective classroom strategies to implement JA’s essential post-secondary skills for economic success.
The feedback from local teachers was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the effectiveness and relevance of the sessions.
"Great and relatable presenters!" exclaimed one participant. Another teacher added, “ I think it has the potential to change Alaska education.”
The sessions not only provided practical tools but also sparked inspiration among the educators.

“Working with teachers by far was the best part,” said Henn. Thompson added, “Watching teachers engaged in practical activities that they can bring back to their classroom is inspiring! The teachers in Alaska were engaged, enthusiastic, passionate, and a pleasure to work alongside.”
Thompson and Henn's visit was a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of providing educators with the resources and support they need to prepare students for the future. By focusing on financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship, Junior Achievement continued to make a significant impact on students' lives, equipping them with the tools to succeed in a global economy.
Junior Achievement extended its heartfelt thanks to the President of Junior Achievement of Alaska, Flora Teo, for her invaluable support in making this initiative possible.
