(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.)- A dynamic duo of Junior Achievement (JA) High School Heroes identified students who were dealing with some challenges stemmed from language barriers and took it upon themselves to ensure that financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs reached every participating student at Greenacres Elementary School, regardless of the language they speak.

"In a heartwarming display of community support as John I. Leonard's Student Government members showcased their dedication to education by volunteering to teach Junior Achievement programs at Greenacres Elementary," said Erica Henn, JAPTC's Director of Elementary Programs. "The high school students brought their diverse skill set to the K-2 classrooms, imparting valuable knowledge and fostering a love for learning."

Recognizing the diversity within school districts, JA has been proactive in providing bilingual volunteers to support classrooms with primarily Spanish-speaking students.

In each unique setting, teachers collaborate with JA volunteers, forming a collaborative front to deliver impactful educational experiences.

JA's bilingual volunteers play a pivotal role in bridging this educational gap, ensuring that Spanish-speaking students receive the full spectrum of benefits from Junior Achievement programs. The significance of teaching JA in Spanish goes beyond language; it's about creating a connection, understanding, and fostering an environment where every student feels empowered to learn and succeed.

"Greenacres Elementary, known for its innovative Dual-Language program, boasts a student body where over half of the population actively participates in bilingual education," said Henn. "This approach ensures that students receive instruction in core subjects through English and Spanish. High School Heroes stepped into the role of educators, specifically in Spanish classrooms. With enthusiasm, they led lessons entirely in Spanish, creating an immersive learning environment for students."

"Every classroom is different, and our volunteers adapt to the unique needs of each environment. The extra effort these bilingual volunteers put in to teach JA programs in Spanish is not just appreciated; it's transformative. It breaks down barriers, instills confidence, and offers a lifeline of educational support to students who might otherwise be left behind," states Claudia Kirk Barto, President for Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast.

The impact of these efforts extends far beyond the classroom, with the potential to change the trajectory of students' lives. By meeting students in their native language, JA volunteers create a foundation for understanding and learning that can make a significant difference in academic achievement and, ultimately, the students' futures.

As we celebrate the commitment and passion of these JA High School Heroes, the call for more volunteers resonates. The need is great, and the impact is immeasurable. JA invites individuals who are dedicated to empowering the next generation to join the cause, bridging language barriers, and building pathways to success.
